LIFE IN JAPAN
A SPECTACULAR CITY ON THE SANRIKU COAST
Kamaishi city is the host of Iwate Prefecture Rugby World Cup 2019 matches.
The city is located on the Sanriku coast and is a large fishing port in Japan.
All matches will be held in the Kamaishi Recovery Memorial Stadium, to commemorate the lost of life along the Northeast Coast of Japan during the 2011 Tsunami.
Situated on the northeast coast, the city is backed by mountains, with spectacular views and great natural beauty. A seafood haven, Kamaichi is famous for Japanese Scallops, Oysters and Wakame seaweed.
Places of interest include Sennin Mountain pass, Mt. Goyo, UNESCO Hashino Iron Mining & Smelting Centre and Daikannon, a 48.5 meter Buddist statue in the mountains overlooking Kamaishi Bay, nearby the city. The statue has 13 floors and visitors can climb up to a viewing tower with breathtaking views of the bay.
The population of Kamaishi is 35,000 making this a quaint fishing town, well worth a visit for a unique Japanese experience.
